Introduction
The cities of Midland and Odessa are part of the Odessa-Midland Metropolitan Statistical Area, and they have a combined population of over 240,000. Midland is the larger of the two cities, with a population of about 97,000. Midland is the county seat for Midland County; Odessa is the county seat for Ector County.
Location
Midland and Odessa are located in the southwestern portion of Texas, about 15 miles apart from each other. Midland is located at 32:01:35N 102:06:01W; Odessa's location is 31:52:28N 102:20:54W. Both cities are located in the Central Time Zone (GMT-6) and observe Daylight Savings Time.
Transportation/Lodging/Culture
The region is served by the newly renovated Midland International Airport (MAF). Commercial airlines serving MAF include Southwest, Continental and American Eagle.
Auto rental agencies serving MAF include Advantage, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz and National. Hotel/motel courtesy vans are also available for lodging in Midland and Odessa.

Midland's elevation about 2,800 feet (850 meters) above sea level. The climate is mild and semi-arid. Summer average low temperature is 68° F (20° C), and the average high temperature is 95° F (35° C). In winter, the average low temperature is 29° F (-2° C) and the average high is 57° F (14° C). The humidity level is generally very low, often dropping to 5-15% by mid-afternoon. Average annual rainfall is less than 15 inches (3.8 cm) and average snowfall is 1.5 inches (40 mm). Most of the rainfall occurs between April and October, with less than an inch (25 mm) per month in the winter. On average, the area has precipitation in less than 50 days each year.
